Man City icon taunts Ian Wright after equaliser vs Arsenal – leaving John Stones in stitches

by · Manchester Evening News

Joe Hart's enthusiastic celebration of Manchester City's last-minute equaliser against Arsenal right in front of Ian Wright left John Stones in a laughing mood.

The England defender was the star of the show for Pep Guardiola's team on Sunday (September 22), scoring a goal in the 98th minute to secure a draw for the Premier League champions.

Hart, who was in the studio for Premier League Productions alongside Ian Wright and Michael Owen, was as pumped up as anyone when celebrating Stones' equalising goal.

He let out a roar towards the Arsenal legend when Stones' goal hit the back of David Raya's net, and then banged the desk in joy after giving Wright a playful push too. Stones' goal came after Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes had put the visitors ahead in the first half. Those goals had followed Erling Haaland's opener, which was his 100th for the Citizens.

After Hart's ecstatic reaction to Stones' goal, the Citizens legend told Wright: "It was always going to happen", before starting to sing the defender's chant, reports the Express.

Stones couldn't help but smile as he watched his former team-mate's celebrations, responding with: "Love it, love it Harty" to the ex-goalkeeper chanting his song.

Hart ended his 21-year professional career last year, with his final game being Celtic's Scottish Cup final 1-0 victory over Rangers. Since hanging up his boots, Hart has become a popular figure in sports punditry, offering insights during England's journey to the Euro 2024 final.

Following Ian Wright's departure from Match of the Day after a 20-plus year tenure, Hart and Theo Walcott were announced as his replacements to join the esteemed BBC programme.

City managed to stay at the summit of the Premier League table, just keeping Liverpool at bay by one point following their clash. Talking to media after the game, Stones shared his views on Arsenal's tactics, which he implied was borderline unsporting behaviour.

He said: "You can call it clever or dirty, whichever way you want to put it, but they break up the game which upsets the rhythm. They use it to their advantage and we dealt with it very well. They slow the game down, they get the keeper on the floor so they can get some information onto the pitch.

"We had to control our emotions during those tough times and I felt like we did. There were a lot of tough tackles, some silly decisions, but we did well. I wouldn't say they have mastered it, but they have done it for a few years now, so we knew to expect that."
