Amad was in excellent form for United against PAOK and wants to extend his stay at the club

'Make history' - Amad makes contract statement ahead of Manchester United managerial change

Amad wants to commit his future to Manchester United and make history with the club after marking his return to the starting XI with a stunning double against PAOK in the Europa League.

The 22-year-old started for the first time since October 3, and he took out his recent frustrations on the Greek champions, running them ragged down the right and proving to be United's match-winner in a game they couldn't afford to slip up in.

Amad's star turn was perfectly timed to catch the eye of Ruben Amorim, who takes over as head coach on Monday, but for now, his future is in the hands of the new football structure at Old Trafford, with sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox leading on contract decisions.

The former Atalanta winger's existing deal ends next summer, and although United have the option of an extra year, talks are taking place over a longer-term extension, something Amad is keen to get done.

"I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to play for this club, and yeah, I want to stay here for a long, long, long time to make history with this club," he said.

Amad had been omitted for seven successive games since starting against Porto and he looked visibly annoyed at the decision to bring Antony on ahead of him in the Europa League draw at Fenerbahce.

He put that frustration into an all-action performance against PAOK, scoring an inventive header and then dispossessing Baba Rahman before unleashing a thunderous left-footed shot from the edge of the box.

Amad played down the frustrations he had felt in his run out of the team and said he was putting all his effort into every appearance, having been named the club's player of the month earlier in the season.

"I always try to do my best, even when I am not starting," he said. "I'm every time focused, and everyone wants to play.

"We are here to play. And when you don't play, you have to give your best. Today, I try to give my best. And the most important thing was to win because it's been a long time, we didn't win in Europe so it was nice to win today.

"I know I was player of the month in August, but I have moved on. I am focused for now, for future and give my best for the shirt and get this team back on top again."

Amad has one chance left to shine before Amorim's arrival, with Ruud van Nistelrooy's spell as interim manager coming to an end against Leicester City on Sunday, and he is already looking forward to working with the club's next permanent boss.

"I am excited to have him in this team and I can't wait to work with him," he said.
