Leny Yoro injury latest as Man United defender looks to make debut under Ruben Amorim

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United are looking to wrap up a deal with Sporting for manager Ruben Amorim.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that Amorim has agreed in principle to become the next United manager. Sporting then confirmed on Tuesday that the Reds are interested with a €10million (£8.43m) release clause written into the Portuguese's contract.

One player who will be particularly eager to get on the pitch under Amorim or any manager for that fact is Leny Yoro. The French centre-back is yet to make his competitive debut for United after fracturing his metatarsal in the opening game of the Reds' pre-season tour of the United States in July.

The Reds issued an update on Yoro last week, confirming he had started training outside on the grass. United anticipated he would be sidelined for around three months after undergoing surgery at the start of August.

Yoro was walking without crutches as soon as early-September and has been working hard in the gym at Carrington. He will not be rushed, and his competitive debut for the club is 'not imminent', but the 18-year-old will make his debut for the club under Amorim if the Portuguese is appointed as expected.

Amorim was left visibly annoyed during his latest post-match press conference after journalists in attendance focused on United's interest in his services.

"Nothing is decided yet... I don't know if it's the farewell game or not," he said after Sporting's win over Nacional on Tuesday night. "I have nothing more to say, we are analysing the game and anything I say will only create more noise. There is nothing concrete.

"I don't want to fuel this issue. There is the club's statement to the CMVM, and apart from that we don't know the details yet, we'll see... I have always taken responsibility for my decisions and I will be here to do so, but when I am sure of things it will be easier."
