WHL roundup: Gavin McKenna steps up for Tigers in 4-3 shootout win over Hitmen
· iNFOnews.caCALGARY - Gavin McKenna scored twice, including the shootout winner, in the Medicine Hat Tigers' 4-3 win over the host Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League on Wednesday.
Carter Cunningham scored his first WHL goal and Hunter St. Martin also added a goal in regulation for the Tigers, who got 37 saves in regulation from goalie Harrison Meneghin, and another three in the shootout.
Ethan Moore scored twice and Connor Hvidston once for Calgary, which led 3-1 early in the second period on three straight power-play goals before McKenna and St. Martin drew the visitors even.
Hitmen goalie Eric Tu repelled 39 of 42 shots in the loss.
HURRICANES 3 BRONCOS 1
LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Miguel Marques led Lethbridge with a goal and an assist, while Logan Wormald and Luke Cozens also scored for the Hurricanes.
Lethbridge starter Brady Smith repelled 33 of 34 shots in the victory.
Luke Mistelbacher was Swift Current's lone goal scorer. Goalie Reid Dyck stopped 13 of 16 shots in the loss.
RAIDERS 5 PATS 1
REGINA — Niall Crocker had a goal and an assist to lead Prince Albert to victory.
The Raiders also got goals from Tyrone Sobry, Tomas Mrsic, Brayden Dube and Ethan Bibeau, with goalie Max Hildebrand stopping 32 f 33 shots.
Tanner Howe scored for Regina. Pats netminder Kelton Pyne had 30 saves in the loss.
OIL KINGS 6 CHIEFS 3
SPOKANE, Wash. — Gracyn Sawchyn and Cole Miller each had a goal and two assists for Edmonton, which led 4-0 after the opening period.
Oil Kings captain Gavin Hodnett, Rylen Roersma, Adam Jecho and Miroslav Holinka also scored in the win with Alex Worthington stopping 25 of 28 shots in Edmonton's net.
Hayden Paupanekis and Chase Harrington each had a goal and two assists for Spokane with Owen Schoettler also scoring in the loss. Chiefs goalie Dawson Cowan made 22 saves.
