The next fight card on the UFC schedule takes place on Saturday, November 16 from Madison Square Garden in New York City. In the main event of that card, UFC heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones matches up against former two-time UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic. Before that fight takes place, Viviane Araujo faces Karine Silva in a battle of ranked women’s flyweights.

UFC 309 streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view at 10:00 p.m ET. Prelims for UFC 309 are on ESPNews at 8:00 p.m. ET, and early prelims begin streaming at 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

UFC 309: Viviane Araujo vs. Karine Silva

Viviane Araujo (12-6) made her UFC debut in May 2019 as a replacement for Melissa Gatto against Talita Bernardo in a bantamweight fight on the early prelims of UFC 237. Araujo won that fight via third-round knockout. The victory remains Araujo’s only stoppage win as a member of the UFC roster.

Araujo went 3-1 over her next four fights. However, the 37-year-old has struggled since then, putting together a 2-4 record since May 2021. She is coming off a February decision loss to Natalia Silva on a UFC Fight Night card. Despite her losing record, Araujo remains ranked inside the top 10 of the UFC’s women’s flyweight division. She is currently in the No. 9 spot in the official UFC rankings.

Karine Silva (18-4) earned her UFC contract in 2021 with a second-round submission win on a Dana White’s Contender Series card. Silva then picked up three first-round submission wins under the UFC banner. In her most recent outing, Silva showed that she can go the three-round distance, earning a unanimous decision victory against Ariane da Silva on a UFC Fight Night card.

Silva is the No. 11 ranked fighter in the UFC women’s 125-pound division. A win against the longer tenured Araujo will likely launch Silva into the top 10 of the division.

UFC 309 Betting Odds: Viviane Araujo vs. Karine Silva

Karine Silva opened as the -230 betting favorite over Viviane Araujo, who was +190. As fight night approaches, Silva is a bigger betting favorite. The current betting line has Silva at -295 and Araujo as the +200 underdog.

UFC 309 Predictions and Picks: Viviane Araujo vs. Karine Silva

Look for the Silva to implement her game plan in this contest, pressuring her opponent to the cage and then getting the fight to the mat. From there Silva should be able to control the action on the ground. A finish might not be likely, but could come late in the scrap when Araujo’s cardio begins to fail. However, Araujo has never been submitted and she only has one knockout loss in her career and that came in her fourth pro fight in 2017.

The betting pick is Silva to win via decision.
