IND vs BAN: Ravindra Jadeja, the star India batter, could not breach the three-figures mark in the first innings of the first Test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 20 (Friday) on what happens to be Day 2 of the series opener. Notably, Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin had come together at the crease with the hosts reeling at 144/6 on Day 1. However, their stand not only ensured that India were out of trouble till Stumps on Day 1 but even appeared to be at an advantageous position with the scoreboard reading 339/6.

Ashwin was the aggressor in the partnership and reached his hundred at his home ground on Day 1 itself while Jadeja was unbeaten on 86 and looked all set to get to a ton, much like his batting partner. However, that was not to be as he eventually succumbed to a Taskin Ahmed delivery, edging it to the wicketkeeper, managing to add only 3 runs to his overnight score, falling in the first ball of the third over of Day 2 to end the seventh-wicket stand after having added 199 runs.

Akash Deep Joins Ashwin After The Fall Of Jadeja

Post the wicket of Jadjeja, it was Akash Deep who joined Ashwin in the middle as India are closing in on the 400-run mark in the first innings. India have gone with three pacers and two specialist spinners in this match with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj being the other two speedsters in the side, barring Akash. After what has been a splendid job with the bat already for Ashwin, getting to his sixth Test ton, he will need to comeback and produce the goods with the ball.

This is only the ninth instance of a team winning the toss and electing to bowl first in a Test match on Indian soil but only twice has it resulted in a team ending in a winning cause before this.
