Motherwell Athletics Club hosted their annual Club Championships last month as track and field members came together for a fantastic day of competition.

A multitude of events were contested on Sunday, September 15 at Wishaw Sports Centre but most of the results are being kept under wraps until the club’s award night in November.

The Track and Field athletes all competed in the same four events and this year things started with a 100m, and the under 11s doing 80m. Athletes then took to the field to compete in long jump and javelin (turbo javelins for the little ones).

The Senior Endurance team raced one mile and their results were as follows:

Women - 1. Emma Knox - 6:26; 2. Lucy Saez - 6:58; 3. Julie McKean - 7:02

Men - 1. Craig Mackenzie - 6:06; 2. Peter Gallagher - 7:08; 3. Robert Stewart - 7:15

Following that, it was back to the track for final official race, the 800m.

Athletes also took part in a fun mixed gender and age 4x100m relay. Teams were picked quickly and there was a very narrow finish between all teams.

Club spokesperson Jac Molloy said: “Overall, a fantastic day was had by all with the best atmosphere.

“We had phenomenal support from our friends and families, with many of them and our athletes bringing home baking.

“It really was the perfect day to bring a close to our outdoor track season.

“We were lucky to wake that morning to perfect weather. It’s was dry, sunny but not too hot.

“We’d like to thank all our coaches, volunteers and parents for their help on the day, in particular Bob McCrum, whom without his organisation, the day would not be possible.”
