Annan player boss Wullie Gibson reckons the derby day win can kick start their season ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Alloa.

And he has also welcomed the return of long term injury victim Scott Hooper following a year on the sidelines.

Gibson brought him on as a late substitute at Galabank in the 1-0 triumph over Queen of the South.

He said: “It was great to see Scott Hooper back in the picture after a long, long time.

“I looked over and just gave him the wee nod and he came on like a young kid again.

“He never set a foot wrong on the pitch and that is the quality that we have been looking for coming back as we have been short with injuries.

“Scott saw a specialist that I knew for his procedure and he has been out for a long time and put in a lot of hard graft to get back.”

Gibson added: “There are a lot of good teams in this league and what is important is to keep your key players away from injury, but we have had a bit of bad luck with injuries to four or five of them at the same time plus the suspension to Tommy Goss.

“But every manager is in the same boat so I won’t make excuses. However, once we get all the boys it is going to be a good selection.”

Meanwhile, Annan have drawn a tricky Scottish Cup tie in the third round with an away trip to Fraserburgh.

The tie is to be played on the weekend of November 30.
