East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy praised hat-trick hero Cami Elliott for his role in a thumping win at Berwick Rangers on Saturday, and joked the striker was worried after drawing a blank for a couple of games.

Elliott is joint-top scorer in the Lowland League on 10 goals following his treble at Shielfield Park, which was added to by a John Robertson double and strikes from Sean Fagan and Jack Leitch.

That followed a 5-0 midweek win at Gretna, with Leitch and Robertson bagging doubles after Joao Balde’s opener.

Kennedy was delighted with the performances, and to see goals spread out amongst his players.

But he’s especially pleased for Elliott, who is showing why he was brought back to the club following a spell in Ireland with Dundalk.

Kennedy said: “Cami hadn’t scored for a couple of games and was starting to panic, because he had started so well!

“That’s what we brought Cami here to do, and we probably missed that focal point last season.

“He’s a fantastic striker, and has progressed massively, even in the short time he was in Ireland, training every day.

“John has been similar to Cami, he’s not scored many in the last couple of weeks either, so I’m delighted for him and Jack.

“It has been a really strong week, with two difficult away games.

“We were really strong against Gretna, who have massively improved, and in the first 45 minutes against Berwick it was exceptional. It was 5-0 and it could have been anything, so I’m delighted. The boys were outstanding.

“Sometimes we can dominate games but not create an awful lot of opportunities, so I’m delighted that we converted so many.”

The wins have kept Kilby on Caledonian Braves’ tail, three points behind with a game in hand, but Kennedy said: “I don’t worry about the league table at this point. Once you get to the halfway point it will start to split a bit.

“We’ve still to play Linlithgow, Tranent, Bo’ness, and I think Caledonian Braves are similar, so it will start to settle down.

“I’m sure two or three will break away from the group at some point.”
