Neil Critchley

Neil Critchley as Hearts manager is not for me and Andrew McKinlay is doing what he always does - Ryan Stevenson

Stevo sees the Hearts board missing a huge opportunity to make a statement and rover reliance on analytics could prove costly

The stats speak for themselves. Neil Critchley has been sacked from his last two jobs at Queen’s Park Rangers and Blackpool.

I don’t know what information has been put in the computer but how is he the best candidate to become the next Hearts manager? He hardly won a game at QPR! Football is the simplest game in the world but it has now been over-complicated by idiots. Look at his last two jobs?

I am not saying he is not a good coach. From what I have heard, he is a very good coach but it is a totally different skill set from being a manager. I genuinely don’t know. I am trying not to be Mr Negative from the start. But if I am being honest, it is not for me. I don’t know enough about him. What you have to do as a fan hope the people making these decisions make the right one. Right now, I’m not sure I trust this move

The jury is majorly out for me. When Critchley comes in I will get behind him because I am a Hearts fan and I want the club to do well.

We need Hearts to start winning games and pronto. When the Hearts job came up, the board had an opportunity to go and make a statement.

I know they are using Tony Bloom’s software and analytical companies but I wanted the club to go and appoint somebody who would unite the fans and get everybody talking about the Hearts in a positive light. The majority of the things coming out over this appointment have been negative.

It seems that quite a lot of fans aren’t happy. It is going to be difficult for him to come in as a manager as well. If he doesn’t hit the ground running then it will be even worse than it was for Steven Naismith at the end.

I would have liked to have seen a bit more thought going into the appointment. I am not sure there is much thought gone into it.

It looks as if they have handed everything over to this analytical company and whatever the software has flagged up they have gone for. They have been unable to do a deal with their first choice Per Mathias-Hogmo and now this is their second or third choice.

I get that this is the way the world is now and a lot of things are data driven. Andrew McKinlay (chief executive) time and time again has passed the buck, like he did with Naisy and giving the last coaching team new deals.

I have friends who invest in the club and say Andrew is a really nice guy. As I have said in the past, it is never personal, but sometimes people get carried away with their job title or the power.

We are sitting bottom of the table by two points and the day before the European game Andrew was speaking about using the analytical company to split the Old Firm or at the very least push them all the way.

I mean we are sitting at the bottom of the table. We need to focus on winning games. This is a massive gamble.

I just thought they could have put more thought into it. Whether that meant paying compensation then so be it but Hearts are a big club, with a big pull and there were loads of managers who would have been desperate for the job.

I would have gone after a name and made Derek McInnes from Kilmarnock the target. He knows the club and Scottish football. It has taken Aberdeen up to now, since he left, to get back to the sort of levels he had them at.

Another one on my radar would have been Paulo Sergio. He is out of a job. I know him well. Even bringing Paulo back for a year or two would have united the fans. That is the sort of appointment we need. Somebody who would get a buzz going around Tynecastle again.

I don’t think this appointment does that, I genuinely don’t! If he loses the first couple of games it will be horrendous.

I have seen some of the social media posts. Some are saying he needs to be given a chance but if the results don’t improve then they will give it hell for leather.

The new manager is on a hiding to nothing. The Hearts fans give you so much and ask for very little in return.

I was there the season we got relegated and we were in administration . We got beat by St Mirren and we were cut adrift.

They still sold Tynecastle out every week and gave us standing ovations. The Hearts fans deserve a manager who will lift them. I do hope Critchley can do that because they’ve had nothing to get excited about this season!
