The Premier League has come out to explain why Lisandro Martinez wasn't sent off after a dangerous tackle on Daichi Kamada.

The Manchester United centre-back started and finished the game when they travelled to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

Despite the numerous chances for both sides to break the deadlock, the game ended in a barren draw. Matthijs de Ligt had a couple of half chances for the Red Devils, while Eberechi Eze had the best chances for the hosts. Andre Onana also pulled off a sublime save to thwart Ismailla Sarr from close range.

Lisandro Martinez's challenge on Kamada

The game's major talking point came in the 63rd minute when Martinez lunged into a tackle with two feet. The incident occurred near Palace's penalty area.

Centre referee David Coote showed the Argentine defender a yellow card, much to the frustration of the home supporters. Martinez planted his two feet near where Kamada was controlling the ball in a reckless offence that endangered the opponent.

Why Martinez avoided a red card vs Palace

However, the Premier League argued that the former Ajax player did not make contact with Kamada, hence the decision not to send him off.

"The referee issued a yellow card to Martinez for a challenge on Kamada. VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of no red card, deeming this was a reckless challenge and made no contact with Kamada," read a statement on X.

The draw means Erik ten Hag's side have only won two Premier League games in the new season, while Oliver Glasner remains winless.

Andre Onana lauds Rashford

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Man United goalkeeper Andre Onana praised Rashford after his goal against Southampton.

The Cameroon goalkeeper admitted Rashford's struggles last season and said he was happy he got back in the goals.
