Roy Keane hints at next move and cites court case in major career decision
by Keith Wales, Connor O'Neill · NottinghamshireLiveRoy Keane, the former Nottingham Forest player and assistant manager, has hinted at a potential move abroad. Keane, who had an illustrious career with Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson after quitting the City Ground, parted ways with the club in 2005 and subsequently joined Celtic.
Post-retirement, he took up managerial roles at Sunderland and Ipswich Town before segueing into punditry - now a regular face on ITV and Sky Sports. He also had short assistant manager roles at Villa in 2014 and Forest in 2019.
But in an episode of The Overlap podcast filmed in Turin, Keane disclosed to Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Ian Wright his aspirations to relocate abroad - possibly to Switzerland, reports the Manchester Evening News.
"In the next couple of years, I reckon I will be moving abroad... putting it out there," Keane said. And in response to Carragher's inquiry about his potential new home, Keane added: "Do you know what, Switzerland, maybe? Switzerland is beautiful."
In August, Keane expressed a desire to bow out of punditry altogether within the next decade. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, he revealed his frustrations at the role.
He explained: "I love football, but the hassle of matches, getting to games, and the hassle of fans – I was in court a few months ago with somebody head-butting me – do you think I enjoy that side of it? Absolutely not.
"The games are fine. Getting to the games, parking up, people shouting your name – good stuff, bad stuff – it's a nuisance. Being a pundit in 10 years, not."
