Srinagar, Oct 14: In a display of batting prowess, Qamran Iqbal’s scintillating century laid the foundation for Jammu and Kashmir’s strong position against Delhi on day one of the Men’s U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy match. At stumps, J&K posted a commanding 320/7 at the Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Stadium, Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi.

Opting to bat, J&K’s decision paid dividends as Iqbal, partnering with Qazi Junaid Masood, set a solid platform with a 73-run opening stand. While Masood fell for a well-made 38, Iqbal continued his onslaught, forming a crucial 101-run partnership with Musaif Ajaz (45).

The centrepiece of J&K’s innings was undoubtedly Iqbal’s masterclass. His 147 off 183 balls, adorned with 10 boundaries and 7 sixes, showcased both skill and temperament. The innings not only anchored J&K’s batting but also put Delhi’s bowling attack under considerable pressure.

As wickets fell around him, Iqbal found support in Arya Thakur, who remained unbeaten on 37 at day’s close. Delhi’s bowlers toiled hard, with left-arm spinner Rounak Waghela emerging as the most successful, claiming 3/88.

Iqbal’s tour de force has positioned J&K favourably, setting the stage for an intriguing contest as the match progresses. His innings not only highlighted his personal form but also underscored J&K’s batting depth in this crucial U-23 fixture.
