Sophie Molineux lauded New Zealand for firing on all cylinders against India, but said that Australia won’t compromise on their intensity when they face the White Ferns in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 match on Tuesday, October 8 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

On October 4, Sophie Devine’s New Zealand thumped Harmanpreet Kaur’s India by 58 runs and are on top of the table with a net run rate of +2.900. Australia, on the other hand, will go into the game after beating Sri Lanka in their opening game.

‘New Zealand on a high’

“Yeah, it was great to see last night. Obviously they played out of their skin and really attacked the Indian team. So yeah, I think it won't be too dissimilar to how we approach every game and that's to come out with intensity and obviously the conditions are very different to where we played them back in Australia,” Molineux said in the pre-match press conference.

“But again, it's just adapting and yeah, they've obviously had a really good win so they're going to come in on a high and hopefully we can carry on our momentum as well,” Molineux added.

Australia will have the psychological advantage as they recently beat the White Ferns 3-0 at home. In fact, having beaten the White Ferns in eight of their last 10 meetings, Healy’s women will be looking to claim the top spot in the table.

Against Sri Lanka, Australia restricted their opponents to 93 for seven in 20 overs. Molineux had a decent day after she got the wickets of Harshitha Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari to finish with figures of 4-0-20-2.

Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 43 helped Australia chase down the target with 34 balls to spare. Healy, Georgia Wareham and Ellyse Perry got out cheaply and will be looking to make amends.
