West Indies will be looking to carry their momentum when they lock horns with Nigar Sultana Joty’s Bangladesh on September 10. Kathryn Bryce’s Scotland, on the other hand, would be disappointed with the way they turned out against the 2016 champions after making Bangladesh sweat in the opening match of the tournament.

Afy Fletcher keeps Scotland in check

After opting to bat first, the Scots lost both their openers, Saskia Horley and Sarah Bryce, in quick succession. Sarah’s sister, Kathryn, and Alisa Lister stitched together a vital partnership of 46 runs for the third wicket. Kathryn made 25 while Lister scored 26 before both batters perished to spinner Afy Fletcher, who also dismissed Priyanaz Chatterji to finish with figures of 4-0-22-3.

Lorna Jack and Darcey Carter played cameos, helping Scotland post 99 for eight on the board. Chinelle Henry was stupendous after she picked up the wicket of Sarah Bryce and bowled at an economy rate of 2.50. Skipper Matthews and Karishma Ramharack accounted for a scalp apiece.

West Indies dictate terms

The Caribbean team showed intent right from the word go. Although they lost the wickets of Matthews and Stafanie Taylor in the powerplay, they scored 46 runs to make sure that Scotland were not able to get a foothold back into the contest. Qiana Joseph came out firing on all cylinders, scoring 31 runs off 18 balls with three fours and a six.

Deandra Dottin faltered against the Proteas, but her 28-run knock off 15 balls should give her a lot of confidence. After her impressive showing with the ball, Henry stepped up with the bat as well, making an unbeaten 18 off 10 balls. Oliva Bell picked up two wickets for Scotland, but her efforts went in vain.
