  • Parteek Dahiya impressed with 308 raid points in two seasons
  • Guman Singh led the raiding unit with consistent attacking displays

Two-time Pro Kabaddi League runners-up Gujarat Giants are determined to secure their first PKL title in Season 11. One of the most consistent teams in the league, the Giants have reached the playoffs in four of the six seasons they’ve competed in, showcasing their resilience and ambition. After exiting last season following a loss to Haryana Steelers in the Eliminator, the team is eager to go all the way this year under head coach Ram Mehar Singh, who previously led Patna Pirates to PKL glory in Season 5.

Sharpening their squad at the Season 11 Player Auction, the Giants signed 15 players, aiming to build a title-contending team. Let’s break down the team’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as they approach the new season.

Strengths

Gujarat Giants’ biggest asset heading into Season 11 is their potent raiding unit. Armed with multiple raiding options, the Giants will rely heavily on Guman Singh, Parteek Dahiya, and Rakesh to lead the attack. Guman Singh, acquired for INR 1.97 crore, ranked ninth in Season 10 with 163 raid points and has amassed 400 points in his PKL career. Parteek Dahiya has consistently impressed with 308 raid points in two seasons, while Rakesh, with 379 career points, aims to bounce back after a challenging last season. Monu, another proven raider, adds depth with 109 raid points to his name.

Weaknesses

The team’s Achilles heel remains their defence. Despite experienced defenders like Sombir (194 tackle points) and Neeraj Kumar (172 tackle points), the Giants lack a well-rounded defensive unit. Their new signings, including Nitesh, Manuj, and Iranian Vahid Rezaeimehr, bring potential but lack sufficient PKL experience to ensure immediate success.

Opportunities

With defensive concerns, the Giants will rely on their all-rounders. Mohammad Nabibakhsh (79 tackle points) and Balaji D (42 tackle points) must step up and contribute on both ends of the mat. Neeraj Kumar, under coach Ram Mehar Singh, will also need to regain his form after a below-par season.

Threats

The Giants' lack of experience in both their raiding and defensive units could hurt their chances. While Guman Singh is talented, his relative inexperience as a primary raider in the league may prove costly. How well the squad manages its inexperience will define the Giants' Season 11 campaign.
