MS Dhoni is going to play another season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. At the age of 43, Dhoni will step out for the five-time champions in the upcoming edition of the T20 league. Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player for INR 4 crore under a rule that allows retaining players as uncapped if they haven't played international cricket for more than five years.
Dhoni hasn’t played any cricket for India since July 2019 and retired in August 2020. Dhoni, however, has kept turning up for the Super Kings. Ruturaj Gaikwad (INR 18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (INR 13 crore), Shivam Dube (12 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (INR 18 crore) are the other players retained by the Super Kings.
Fans, in the meantime, welcomed Dhoni with open arms as the CSK legend gets set to take part in his 18th season in the IPL. Barring 2016 and 2017 when he played for Rising Pune Supergiant when the Super Kings were going through a suspension period, Dhoni hasn’t moved from CSK.
“MS Dhoni retained. He will be there in IPL 2025. What a man. Great dedication to play,” one fan wrote. Another fan wrote, “Legendary! Dhoni redefines what it means to be a hero!”
