India's rising star Shubman Gill revealed his batting mantra with another star batter, Rishabh Pant, during Day 2 of the 3rd Test between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 2, Saturday. Gill said that both him and Pant were just having fun in the middle as they tried to put pressure back on the New Zealand bowlers by disrupting their line and lengths. Shubman Gill with his 90-run knock and Rishabh Pant's 60 counterpunched for a brilliant 96-run stand, but apart from the duo's efforts, India's batting cut a sorry figure.

"I think when you put the bowlers under pressure, it is difficult for them to bowl in that area consistently and that's what we talked about. The way Rishabh came in and started hitting those boundaries, in that very particular session they were not consistent with their line and lengths. So that's why were able to cash-in," Gill said in the press conference after the end of Day 2.

Gill misses out on century

India found themselves in a bit of trouble at the end of Day 1 as they were reduced to 86/4. Pant and Gill led India's recovery with counter-attacking knocks. However, after Pant's dismissal, India went from 182/5 to 263 all-out with Gill missing out on a much-deserved hundred.

"We were just having fun in the middle, and it was all about trying to put them under pressure. Like I said, it is difficult. If we are playing our shots, then it's difficult for bowlers to bowl in that area consistently. If we see that the bowlers are bowling in the same area, it is difficult to defend in that area consistently. Then its hard for bowlers to contain runs," he said.

"This has been a great year"

Gill revealed that he was confident going into the 3rd Test as he played the spin really well and guided India to a 28-run lead alongside Rishabh Pant.

"I think I have been having a great year this year. I played the last match and got two starts. I wasn't able to convert and that is a different thing. I was very confident going into this innings and had no pressure," he added.
