Liam Livingstone was at his very best in the fourth ODI between England and Australia at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. On Friday, September 27, he scored an unbeaten 62 off 27 balls with the help of three fours and seven sixes. The right-hander, who got into the squad in place of injured Jos Buttler, lit up the Home of Cricket and was severe on Mitchell Starc.

After being asked to bat first, England put up a huge score of 312 for the loss of five wickets 39 overs after the match curtailed by rain. Livingstone came to bat after Adam Zampa got the wicket of Harry Brook, who backed up his hundred in Durham with an 87-run knock. From there on, Livingstone did not look back and kept playing his shots freely.

In the last over, he took down Starc by taking 28 runs off the over. He started with a huge six on the on-side off the first ball. Thereafter, he cleared the boundary off the third and fourth balls, putting Starc under immense pressure. He hit his fourth sixth in the over to make life tougher for Starc. He finished off the over and the English innings with a boundary off the last over.

Liam Livingstone lights up Lord’s

Livingstone’s assault meant that Starc made the embarrassing record for bowling the most expensive over by the Australian in ODIs. The record of 26 was earlier jointly held by Simon Davis, Craig McDermott, Xavier Doherty, Adam Zampa and Cameron Green.

Livingstone also hit the fastest fifty in ODIs at the Lord’s off only 25 balls. He also equaled Andre Flintoff’s record of most sixes in an innings at Lord’s (7). England also made the record for most sixes by a team (12) at the historic venue.
