Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto picked the positives out of their loss against India in the 1st Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Shanto was impressed with the fast bowlers, including Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. However, he wanted the batters to step up and score runs going into the 2nd Test match in Kanpur. India registered an emphatic win by 280 runs, extending their domination over Bangladesh. India are yet to lose a Test against Bangladesh, as they registered their 12th Test win over the neighbouring nation.

"The positive thing is the way Hasan, Taskin and Rana bowled in the first 2-3 hours, really impressive. After that, they (India) batted really well. Seaming option - everyone contributed. The way we bowled with the new ball, it's impressive. The last couple of series we have bowled really well but we have to continue that," Najmul Hossain Shanto told the broadcasters in the post-match presentation.

Hasan Mahmud impresses with five-fer

On a Chennai pitch, which was conducive for fast bowling on first two days, Hasan Mahmud picked up a five-wicket haul and put India in early trouble. The young pacer also became the first-ever bowler to pick a five-wicket haul in India. Taskin Ahmed also contributed with three wickets in the first innings.

Shanto was the only bright spot in Bangladesh's batting in the 1st Test as he scored 82 from 127 balls in the 4th innings chase of 515 runs. Despite a great start by the openers in the chase, the rest of the batters couldn't step up and bundled out at 234. In their first innings, Bangladesh were all-out at 149 with Jasprit Bumrah picking a four-wicket haul.

"Hope batters do something special"

Shanto said that he always wanted to contribute and enjoyed his batting. He wanted the batters to step up.

"As a batter, I always try to contribute. I enjoy my batting. Just try to bat as long as we can without thinking about the outcome, just try to follow our process and play with our strength that's what we wanted to do. Bowlers did a great job, I hope the batters will do something special."
