Suryakumar Yadav showed his appreciation for Mahmudullah during Bangladesh’s third and final T20I on Saturday (October 12) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Mahmudullah was the last of the Big 5, also including Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim, to retire from T20Is.

Riyad finished his career as the second-highest run-scorer for the Tigers in Men’s T20Is, having notched 2444 runs from 141 matches at an average of 23.50 with eight fifties and a top score of 64 not out. In the T20I series against India, Mahmudullah scored 50 runs from three games at an average of 16.67.

India vs Bangladesh, 3rd T20I Updates

On Sunday, Mahmudullah played his last knock in T20Is and scored eight runs off nine balls with one four. He got out while unsuccessfully trying to hit Mayank Yadav down the ground, holding out to Riyan Parag. When he was walking off for the last time, Suryakumar Yadav went up to Mahmudullah and gave him a pat on the back.

As far as Bangladesh are concerned, they finished their tour of India on a disappointing note, losing the series 3-0. After going down tamely in Gwalior and Delhi, the Tigers lost the third game by 133 runs in Hyderabad. Earlier they also lost the Test series 2-0.

After opting to bat first, India scored 297 for the loss of six wickets. Mahmudullah gave 26 runs in two overs, but got the wicket of Suryakumar, who made 75 runs. Towhid Hridoy scored 63 runs off 42 balls with five fours and three sixes, as Bangladesh finished their innings at 163 for seven.

Mahmudullah had retired from Test cricket back in July 2021. After now retiring from T20Is, the Mymensingh-born cricketer plans to play in the Champions Trophy to be held next year.
