Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that the team management have a tough task at their hands in terms of selecting a playing XI for the first T20I match against Bangladesh. India play 3 T20Is against Bangladesh, where they have called up multiple promising talents from the Indian Premier League.
Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mayank Yadav are three names in focus in the Bangladesh series awaiting their debuts in the national team. Apart from the trio, former World No. 1 bowler in the T20I format - Ravi Bishnoi is also in the squad alongside Washington Sundar.
Aakash Chopra took to social media on October 6 to talk about the issue and said that he expected Mayank Yadav to play because the pacer was fast-tracked from the IPL despite injury concerns. Chopra further said that Varun Chakravarthy was also expected to play as he was recalled on the back of stellar IPL 2024.
"Interesting selection for the playing XI today. Since Mayank is fast-tracked, you play him. You don’t fast-track talent to warm the bench. Varun is back after 3 years. You don’t recall someone to sit on the sidelines either. That saidâæBishnoi and Washington are ahead in the queue. Tough calls to be made," Aakash Chopra said ahead of the first T20I in Gwalior.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav has confirmed that Sanju Samson will open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma. In the pre-match press conference, Yadav did not speak about the rest of the combination.
