Ishan Kishan was at his very best when Jharkhand faced Railways in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group clash on Friday, October 18 at the ADSA Railways Cricket Ground in Ahmedabad. On Day 1, the left-handed batter scored 101 runs off 158 balls with the help of 13 fours and two sixes. On the back of his knock, Jharkhand scored 325 for the loss of five wickets at the close of play.

After opting to bat first, Jharkhand got off to a terrible start, being reduced to 25 for two in 8.3 overs. Himanshu Sangwan dismissed Aryaman Sen and Utkarsh Singh to put pressure on Jharkhand’s batting line-up. Nazim Siddiqui and Kumar Suraj steadied the ship with a partnership of 57 runs for the third wicket. Sangwan separated the duo after getting rid of Suraj.

Siddique was unlucky to not reach his hundred, getting out to Karn Sharma after scoring 96 runs off 131 balls with the help of 15 fours. From there on, Kishan and Virat Singh made sure that Jharkhand finished the day with their noses ahead in the first innings.

Kishan came to bat at No.6 and looked in good form. He built a crucial partnership of 174 runs with Virat for the fifth wicket. Just when it seemed that Kishan would bat until the very end of the day, he became Sangwan’s fourth victim. After Kishan got out, Virat, who stayed not out on 103 off 187, and Anukul Roy played out the remaining overs.

Kishan has had a decent season in first-class cricket. Last month, he scored 111 while playing for India C in their Duleep Trophy clash against India B. He also scored 38 runs for Rest of India in their Irani Cup match against Mumbai. Kishan last played Test cricket on the tour of West Indies last year.
