Australia's star batter Marnus Labuschagne was at his innovative best while leading Queensland in the opening round of Sheffield Shield, a premier domestic red-ball tournament in Australia. Labuschagne brought himself on to the attack for Queensland against Western Australia in Perth and entertained the crowd and the umpires in a spell filled with founder barrage.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Queensland got off to a sensational start as Michael Nesser ran through the top-order of Western Australia. Nesser got the big wickets of Cameron Bancroft (0), Jayden Goodwin (0), and Mitchell Marsh (13) before spinner Mitchell Swepson broke a 59-run stand for the fourth wicket by removing Hilton Cartwright for 38.

However, captain Sam Whiteman and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis battled hard for Western Australia, rescuing them out of trouble. The duo frustrated the Queensland bowling attack, stitching a 203-run partnership. During this mammoth stand, Marnus Labuschagne tried to mix things up and bring himself into the attack.

In the 66th over of the contest on Day 1, Labuschagne, bowling his second over, called one of his teammates to stand directly behind the umpire, setting a unique field. It was neither a mid-on or a mid-off position. The on-field umpire was surprised when he turned back and saw a fielder standing right behind him. Labuschagne then changed his mind, pulled the fielder by his trouser, and moved him to the left of the umpire.

Inglis, who was batting on 83, did not let his concentration be affected by Labuschagne's antics on the field. The Queensland captain bluffed the batter by bowling a bouncer, but Inglis was up to the mark, ducking beneath the flying ball.

It was an entertaining three-over spell on Day 1 by Marnus Labuschagne, who is known for his weird on-field gestures. The Queensland captain bent his back and bowled a barrage of bouncers in a bid to break the partnership. He bowled three overs in the spell and two of them were maidens.

The partnership was finally broken by another part-timer -- Matt Renshaw -- in the 80th over of the innings as Western Australia lost Inglis for 122. Nesser struck right after, removing Sam Whiteman for 102.

Labuschagne continued to bowl on Day 2 of the Sheffield Sheild match when Cooper Connolly and Cameron Gannon hit a fifty each to take Western Australia past 400. Labuschagne got the wicket of Gannon to break a 121-run stand for the eighth wicket.
