South Africa are inching closer to the semi-final berth with a dominant win against Scotland in Match A of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. The Proteas registered a 80-run win against tournament debutants Scotland, who suffered an exit with two straight losses. A victory by such a huge margin ensured South Africa claimed the top spot in Group A, strengthening their chances to seal a place in the knockouts of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

With a score of 166, South Africa posted the highest total in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. All thanks to a strong all-round team performance, despite none of their batters reaching the half-century mark. The openers set the platform with a 64-run stand, with Laura Wolvaardt continuing her good form by scoring a quick 40 off 27 balls. Though Anneke Bosch, batting at number three, couldn't contribute much, the momentum was maintained by Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp.

Brits narrowly missed out on her fifty, but Kapp kept up the scoring rate. She built a steady partnership with Sune Luus, displaying aggressive intent with her footwork. Kapp effectively used her quick movement to convert fuller balls into scoring opportunities, driving them into low full-tosses and frequently targeting the deep backward square leg region with sweeps.

Scotland's bowlers did manage to pull things back in the final two overs, conceding just 14 runs, but South Africa's total of 167 still turned out to be a daunting challenge for their opponents.

With disciplined bowling, the Proteas ensured there were no hiccups in defending the total. Chloe Tyron picked two wickets to leave Scotland reeling at 34/3 with Aybonga Khaka contributing with another scalp. Things only went downhill for Scotland from there as the South Africa bowlers kept chipping in with wickets and Scotland were tottering at 48/6 before the end of 10 overs.
