Amorim arrived at Old Trafford on Monday to begin his new role. He replaces Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed on October 28.
Manchester United record under Van Nistelrooy
Van Nistelrooy had been put in charge on an interim basis as Amorim waited for the international break to ditch Sporting Lisbon and move to England.
The Dutch legend brought back some semblance of stability at the club, leading the Red Devils to three wins and one draw in the four games he was in charge.
Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Manchester United
Amorim had earlier revealed that he would talk to Van Nistelrooy to gauge how best he could fit him into his backroom staff. The club, however, announced on Monday evening that the former PSV Eindhoven would leave the club.
"We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford," read part of the club statement.
Amorim has also decided to part ways with other first-team coaches, Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel. The 39-year-old has come with his technical bench, which will be unveiled soon.
