Palladium Cheltenham Festival 2025 price as €1.4million purchase joins Nicky Henderson

He will be the most expensive horse to be sent over jumps

by · Irish Mirror

New Nicky Henderson recruit Palladium was installed as a 25/1 shot for the Triumph Hurdle at next year's Cheltenham Festival after being purchased for an eye-watering fee before being cut into 14s.

The German Derby winner changed hands for a massive €1.4million, making him the most expensive horse to be sent over jumps. He was previously trained by Henk Grewe, who saddled him to Classic success at Hamburg in July.

The three-year-old is expected to be sent over hurdles for Henderson, with the Triumph Hurdle next March his likely ultimate target for the season.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “As the winning-most trainer in the history of the Triumph, you have to take note when Nicky Henderson picks up an expensive juvenile hurdling prospect. And that’s what the master of Seven Barrows seems to have done with Palladium, bought at the weekend for a whopping €1.4 million in France, reportedly making the son of Gleneagles the most expensive jumps recruit ever.

“The German Derby winner is surely going to be one of the classiest Flat horses to go hurdling this season, so we’ve entered him into the Triumph Hurdle market at 25/1. There’s clearly a long way to go until Cheltenham, but who knows, Henderson might just have another superstar on his hands.”

Following "significant support" on Wednesday morning, the firm cut Palladium's odds into 14/1.

“It’s only a Wednesday in October but we’ve already seen significant support for Palladium in the Triumph Hurdle betting," added the spokesperson. "Nicky Henderson’s record €1.4 million buy was 25/1 this morning, but he’s been very popular, and we’ve had to cut him into 14/1 for the Festival.

“Willie Mullins’ Willy De Houelle had been the talking horse for the Triumph over the summer and currently tops the betting at 5/1, but the way Palladium has been backed today suggests that punters think Nicky Henderson has a worthy adversary for him come Cheltenham.”
