Jake Paul has spent hours studying footage of Mike Tyson and believes he has worked out how to combat the heavyweight legend.

Paul is gearing up for his much-hyped clash with Tyson on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. The YouTuber-turned-boxer is 31 years younger than his opponent, who retired in 2005 and has not fought since a bore draw against Roy Jones Jr in 2020.

The 27-year-old has a 10-1 record in boxing with his only defeat coming on points against Tommy Fury in 2023. He is taking on a 58-year-old who admitted recently he was struggling to walk following a health scare which saw the original date for the fight postponed.

Nevertheless, Paul is taking the fight extremely seriously, knowing that Tyson’s famous power could still be there. He has watched hours of tape to study Tyson’s previous fights and believes he will try “to trap me on the ropes and then get blows off to angles on each side.”

Asked by the Hollywood Reporter what his tactics will be, Paul replied: “To just box on the outside and then use my footwork to be more agile and get him chasing me and then attack him when he’s out of position. That should frustrate him.”

Paul lives in Dorado, Puerto Rico, in a $16million (£12.25m) mansion dubbed the “Taj MaPaul”. He only took up boxing in 2020 following a chaotic period of his life which contained lots of drink and drugs in the wake of the ‘suicide forest’ controversy involving his brother Logan.

After having suicidal thoughts, Paul believes that boxing saved his life and his girlfriend Jutta Leerdam is confident he will beat Tyson. “The progression Jake has made is not normal,” she said.

“Other athletes, they make a few percentage points of progression a year, if at all. Jake makes so much in a year. So I do trust his skills. I’m very proud of him. But of course, Mike Tyson could give one punch that is harder than Mike has ever thrown and it will be lights out for Jake.”

The two fighters will share a $80million (£60m) pot, but Paul has insisted the fight isn’t about money. Asked why he’s fighting in a recent press conference, he replied: “Making history. This is what it's all about for me, man. I'm a kid from Ohio. They'll never give me credit. That's the way it is. If I was walking on water, they would say it's because I couldn't swim. And this is to make history. The people think I'm going to get knocked out by this strong, powerful guy.

“All the people in my comments say, ‘look at his power. He's going to get KO’d.’ This has taken a chance to fight somebody as vicious as Mike can be. You got to risk it for the biscuit. That's the name of the game.”
