Brighton’s Irish connection continues to yield results - this time with former Bohemians midfielder Jamie Mullins earning a nomination for Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September.

Hot on the heels of Seagulls loan pair Andy Moran and Mark O’Mahony scoring for Stoke City and Portsmouth respectively in a 6-1 win for the Potters, Mullins has won a place on the eight-strong shortlist.

He is joined by teammate Freddie Simmonds, while there are two Manchester City players and another from Manchester United also vying for the award.

Brighton secured back-to-back away wins in September against Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, with Mullins claiming an assist in the 3-0 win over Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, Moran paid tribute to four-goal hero and fellow Ireland Under-21 international Tom Cannon after his sensational display against Portsmouth.

Moran has been called into the latest Under-21 squad for the European qualifiers against Norway in Turner's Cross (October 11) and Italy away (October 15), but once again Cannon is absent.

"It was unreal. When the fourth one went in I was running over to him like (shocked expression), it was mental. Every time he took a shot it was going straight in the corner. He was unbelievable tonight. I'm sure he'll get many more this season," said the former Bray Wanderers prospect.

"I know him from Ireland squads before and I was telling everyone when he came in how good a finisher he was, so I'm buzzing for him to get the four goals."

As for his own strike, Moran added: "I had one in the first-half that was horrible, I scuffed it, passed it back to the goalkeeper, basically. So I thought second-half when I got it out of my feet I'll strike this better. Thankfully it went in. I was happy with it.

"As a midfielder I like to play in those higher positions as well. Tonight I was a bit deeper, but definitely last season I didn't score enough goals in the league, so I am looking to add that to my game. But ultimately it's about winning and just helping the team as much as I can.
