Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola would be more likely to extend his contract at the Etihad if they are severely punished by the Premier League over their 115 financial charges, according to reports.

City are facing a huge showdown with the Premier League, who have charged the Premier League champions with 115 breaches of their financial rules, and they could hear their fate before the end of 2024.

Due to the severity and huge amount of charges, there has been speculation City could be hit with a massive points deduction - or even relegated in the worst possible scenario, leading to questions over the future of boss Guardiola.

Guardiola's contract with City expires at the end of the current season and the Spaniard will face a huge decision if the club are handed a negative outcome, though The Athletic report that would only increase the chance of the ex-Barcelona coach staying.

It says that decision would be out of "defiance" and a reluctance to leave a club "he has come to love" while they are suffering in a difficult moment.

The report goes on to say that Guardiola will reach a "final decision" in the coming weeks - with the possibility of making it a full decade with the Etihad outfit.

However, if he did decide to leave City next summer, he would give them plenty of notice so they have optimum time to find a new replacement for him - just as Jurgen Klopp did in his final season at Liverpool.

Guardiola is City's most successful manager ever and would not abandon the club if they are punished

Guardiola recently spoke about his future - admitting "anything can happen" after being linked with the England job before Thomas Tuchel was confirmed as coach.

“Leaving City? It’s not true, I haven’t decided yet,” Guardiola told Italian TV programme Che tempo Che Fa. "And it is not even true that I will be the next England coach. If I had decided I would say it… I don’t know either, anything can happen."

Reports surfaced this week that City are eyeing up Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim as their next potential boss If Guardiola does decide to leave.

Guardiola is the most successful coach in City's history after winning six Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and one Champions League, having arrived in 2016 and dominated English football.
