Tyson Fury gave Anthony Joshua opponent crude five-word advice before Wembley fight

Matt Legg has recalled the shocking piece of advice that he received from former world champion Tyson Fury ahead of his own bout with Anthony Joshua back in 2014 - and it's enough to make anyone wince

Tyson Fury once told an opponent of Anthony Joshua to kick the hard-hitter in the balls.

Matt Legg took on AJ back in 2014 on the undercard of Carl Froch vs George Groves II at Wembley, the final fight of the veteran's career. In the months leading up to the fight, Legg shared a number of sparring rounds with Fury after accepting a challenge from the "Gypsy King" who was struggling to find partners at the time.

Legg, in-turn wanted to prove himself by enduring high-level sparring with Fury on his family's caravan site. He also returned for another session with Fury and his cousin Hughie, winning the respect of the family and even being offered some hilarious advice for his fight with Joshua.

Speaking to Daily Star Sport, Legg recalled: "I actually got a message from Tyson before the AJ fight and he said, ‘give it everything you’ve got for one round'. Headbutt him, bite him, kick him in the balls! You know what Tyson’s like, he says funny stuff like that."

Legg admitted that the advice made him chuckle, although he decided not to go ahead with Fury's advice of sticking a Glasgow Kiss on his opponent or kicking him in the crown jewels. He went on: "I got that message the night before and it made me laugh. My plan was to give it everything for two rounds anyway so they weren’t far off, but without the dirty tactics."

The veteran also admitted that AJ didn't count him out in their fight at Wembley, claiming that the hard-hitter had a huge amount of respect for Legg going into the bout. He added: " Anthony is from Watford and I used to box there as an amateur.

"Anthony used to come in the gym as a little kid apparently and I never realised. And he said to a friend of mine, Ricky English, who used to train him, that he watched me and wanted to fight like me. So I asked Anthony about it at the press conference at Wembley. He said, ‘Yeah, I always followed you when I was young’.

"He even remembered certain fights. I didn’t even think he was aware of me so for him to say he had always supported me was quite a proud moment." All respect aside, Legg was ultimately finished by Joshua in the second round of their scrap - and it was chaos from the first second.

Legg came out swinging big and looking for a knockout, but AJ ended up knocking him out with an eye-socket shattering right uppercut, adding a hard left hook for good measure. Legg was unable to make it back to his feet for the referee's count, AJ making his record a respectable 6-0 at the time.

Fast forward to 2024, and Joshua is set to take on Daniel Dubois at the same stadium this evening - with the IBF heavyweight belt on the line. With a record of 28-3, Joshua looks to take on the winner of Fury and Oleksandr Usyk's December rematch for undisputed greatness.

Dubois is no joke however, with a record of 21-2 in his own right with 20 career knockouts to date. He will also look for an undisputed shot next year should he reign supreme over AJ and get his biggest win to date.
