Harry Kane has become the quickest player to score six Bundesliga hat-tricks, taking just 39 games to do so.

The England captain reached the landmark on Saturday, as he scored three times to help Bayern Munich smash Stuttgart. Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham last summer, notching a stunning 44 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

He has continued his fine form under new boss Vincent Kompany, with his hat-trick against Stuttgart taking him to 13 goals for the season after 10 games. Those goals also earned him a place in the Bundesliga record books.

After playing 39 times in the German top-flight, Kane has already scored six hat-tricks. The next quickest player to achieve the feat is Dieter Muller, though he took 118 games to reach the landmark.

Kane is also well ahead of German legend Gerd Muller, who took 127 Bundesliga games to score six hat-tricks. It is a record that appears unlikely to be beaten, with even Erling Haaland not close, scoring three during his two years at Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland does have an astonishing record of his own with scoring trebles, notching eight in the Premier League in his first 73 matches in the English top flight.

Kane's achievement came after a goalless first-half in Saturday's Bundesliga clash. He had been on a run of three Bayern matches without a goal, but drought that to an end just before the hour mark.

The striker unleashed a low drive that found the bottom corner of the net from 30 yards out. He added a second three minutes later with the England star netting a rebound after seeing his shot blocked.

He completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time when he tapped in after Palhinha's shot was blocked. Those goals kept Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga, with Kane left delighted to take home the match ball.

“We played well. The first goal was very important. It opened the game up. I always have faith in myself. It’s how it is being a striker," he told Bayern's club website after the game.

"If you don’t score, then there are questions asked. I’m just happy. In the second half, we stepped it up a notch and Stuttgart couldn’t keep up.”

Despite Kane's drought, Kompany insisted he was always confident the 31-year-old would find himself back among the goals. The Bayern boss delivered a staunch defence of his star striker following the win over Stuttgart.

"To be honest, I didn't waste any seconds thinking about whether he scored or not [in the past games]. I know what qualities he has. He's always hungry, even in training. Sometimes we forget how hard Harry works for the team," Kompany said.

"He's always scored goals, and will always score goals. That won't change. We had to be patient. I had the feeling that we could work our chances a little better. Stuttgart are a great side. It was a very good performance. After the first half, it was all about staying calm. I’m very happy with the result."
