Newcastle United lead 3-way battle for signing – Magpies ‘ready to pay most’ in January

by · Sport Witness

Earlier this month, we covered claims from Italy that Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Lille star Jonathan David.

The striker has starred for the Ligue 1 side since joining them from KAA Gent in 2020. He managed 26 goals and nine assists last season and has seven goals and two assists from 11 matches this season. David has less than a year left on his contract.

These two factors have seen the 24-year-old draw attention from Newcastle United and other clubs.

Tutto Juve cover the Magpies’ interest when discussing Juventus and Inter Milan wanting to sign him.

At this moment in time, the Canada international’s future would be away from Lille.

The report says both Juve and the Nerazzurri are keeping close tabs on the player. The Serie A duo are involved in a ‘three-way’ battle with Newcastle United to acquire his signature.

Among these three clubs, it’s claimed Eddie Howe’s side are ‘favourite’. Tutto Juve further state that Newcastle are ‘ready to pay the most’ in January, most likely to overcome competition.

There’s no mention of the fee the Premier League side are willing to propose or if David wants to join them in the winter market.
