“I’m very proud” – Brentford youngster moves on loan to Hungary this week

Brentford have allowed youngster Valentino Adedokun to seal a loan move to Diósgyőri VTK on Monday.

The 21-year-old arrived at Brentford from Irish side Dundalk FC in 2021 and has been part of the Bees reserve team. He hasn’t made his debut for Brentford’s first team, but Thomas Frank has included him in the matchday squad on several occasions.

Adedokun has now joined the Hungarian club to continue his development. The Brentford owned player has given an interview to Diósgyőri’s official website, where he stated this move will benefit him.

“I’m very proud to play for DVTK in this league,” he said.

“I’ve only seen Hungarian teams in international competitions before and they made a good impression on me. So, I think the OTP Bank Liga is a competitive league and I’m going to have a good year in Diósgyőr for my career.”

The left-back has also seen what it’s like to play at Diósgyőri’s home stadium. He’s eager to play for his new club in front of their supporters.

“I saw the season opener… where I was impressed by my teammates. They played with confidence, and I feel I’ll be able to perform well in their company,” Adedokun explained.

“I’m looking forward to the first game, because I’ve already had a taste of the atmosphere of the matches at Diósgyőr. The ultras were very loud, and the crowd created a wonderful atmosphere, I would like to play in such conditions.”

The Hungarian club have decided to bet on the young Irishman to fill the void left by Stephen Bitoktól’s exit in the summer.

Bitoktól joined Diósgyőri on a free transfer in July 2023 and made 34 appearances in all competitions last season. The 24-year-old Nigerian left them for Gaziantep FK in the last window.

Diósgyőri sporting director Bajúsz Endre has given an insight into why they wanted to sign Adedokun on loan from Brentford.

“After we unfortunately had to part with Stephen in the summer, replacing him became a top priority,” Endre explained.

“We would have liked to sign a young Hungarian player who was ready for the top level, but we couldn’t find such a player on the market. Adedokun’s basic skills are guaranteed by the fact that he has already been in the Premier League squad several times.”

“What made him particularly attractive to us was the fact that he fits the profile of his predecessor almost to a tee: a left-sided defender who can also support attacks effectively with his quick runs and crosses. I trust that he will quickly integrate into the team and become a useful member of DVTK.”
