Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana was forced off the pitch in his side’s Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday. The midfielder was replaced by Ross Barkley in the 60th minute.

Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco has called up Onana for this month’s international break. He announced the squad earlier today and addressed the local reporters.

The manager was asked for an update on the Aston Villa star’s fitness and his comments are relayed by Het Laatste Nieuws.

De Rode Duivels will face Italy and France in the UEFA Nations League. The German coach has revealed the 23-year-old underwent tests. He stated the results were positive, but the former Everton man’s situation needs to be monitored for these two games.

“Onana has a small problem, but an MRI was positive and otherwise we will replace him with a promise [youngster]. He will try to play, but we will monitor him,” he said.

The Villans will take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday. Tedesco and Belgium would be waiting to see if Onana will be involved in this tie.

Unai Emery could provide more updates on the Belgium international in his pre-match press conference later today.

Onana has enjoyed a good start since arriving at Villa Park in the summer window. He has scored three goals from nine matches for Aston Villa.
