“I don’t know much about the position” – Liverpool player having to adapt after Arne Slot moves him

by · Sport Witness

Liverpool star Luis Diaz has admitted he is having to adapt to life under Arne Slot as he uses the Colombian in new positions.

TNT Sports Brazil have an interview with the Liverpool forward today after he bagged a hattrick in the 4-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

It took Diaz to three goals in four games in the competition this season, adding to the five goals and two assists in ten games he’s managed in the Premier League and a solitary strike in the EFL Cup.

The hattrick against Leverkusen came with him in playing in a new role for Liverpool, starting as the centre-forward in a front three of himself, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

That’s certainly something new for the 27-year-old, whose career to date has seen him play 199 games as a left winger, 67 on the left of midfield and only six times as a centre forward.

And he admits he is having to learn again as Slot uses him in the new role and keeps Liverpool’s front three interchangeable.

I’m going to keep working very hard because we’re having a great start to the season with our coach, so I’m going to keep improving and I always try to give my best for the team,” he said.

“The most important thing is that we get the win and that we play a good game.

“I don’t know much about the position (centre forward), but I’ve managed to adjust because I always try to rotate in the attack centre.

“I’m going to try to learn other things, like the attack centre, and if I have to play again, I’ll say yes.

“We’re ready to play in any position. I’m going to be very centralised today. I’m going to try to rest, which is very important in this series of games.”
