“Doesn’t work that way” – Manager insists Brighton not imposing conditions on loan player

In the summer window, Brighton & Hove Albion allowed Ibrahim Osman to join Feyenoord on a loan deal.

The winger has clocked in 358 minutes from six games, scoring a goal and registering two assists in the process.

Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh was on loan at the Eredivisie side last season. The Seagulls signed him from Newcastle United in the summer window.

At the weekend, Osman managed a goal and two assists in Feyenoord’s 5-1 victory over Go Ahead Eagles. The 19-year-old is of the belief he can have more impact if manager Brian Priske were to deploy him in his preferred position on the left wing instead of right.

“My first time at Feyenoord was full of ups and downs. With the help of my teammates and the coaches, I improve every day. I get to know and understand my fellow players better,” he said.

“On the right I sometimes have to think, but on the left the actions happen automatically. But I’m happy with my starting position and that I played ninety minutes, against Go Ahead, for the first time in five months. Hopefully I will play again, against Benfica.”

The Ghana international also explained the Premier League side are in touch with him to help improve his game.

“After every match there’s contact with Brighton’s loan management. Then we discuss my performance. They ask me about good and bad points and give tips when I should pass or dribble,” Osman explained.

Feyenoord’s manager is well aware of the regular contact between the English club and Osman.

“Of course there is consultation about this between the clubs. They bought him for a lot of money and want to know how he is doing in Rotterdam and talk to him about it,” he said.

Priske knows the Brighton man prefers to play on the left. He dismissed any suggestion that Fabian Hürzeler’s side are influencing the Feyenoord coach’s decision on where to deploy Osman.

“I know Ibrahim likes to play on the left. We talk about that. If we deem it necessary for Feyenoord, he will play there,” Priske added.

“No, it’s not like Brighton is imposing that on us. It doesn’t work that way. We make our own decisions, Osman is a Feyenoord player this season, not Brighton’s.”
