Winger’s January move to Manchester United laughed off – Goes against transfer regulations

by · Sport Witness

Kerem Akturkoglu has been linked with Manchester United over the past couple of days.

The winger impressed during Euro 2024 for Turkey and he left Galatasaray to join Benfica in the summer transfer window.

While a player of his ability could make a difference for Erik ten Hag’s United, the links have now been laughed off by the Portuguese press.

O Jogo today note that while Manchester United might be interested in the Turkey international, he has already played for two clubs this season – Galatasaray and Benfica. FIFA regulations will not allow him to play for another club in the 2024/25 season, pretty much guaranteeing that the 25-year-old will stay at Benfica.

The report looks at how the international press is suggesting that the Red Devils could make a huge offer to the Portuguese giants, but they are confident the transfer won’t happen in January.

The winger has two goals for Benfica in the Champions League, having contributed to four goals in the league. Those are quite impressive numbers, making it no surprise that he is liked elsewhere.

Given what O Jogo have covered, it brings the whole Manchester United link into question.
