Manager tried blocking transfer to Celtic – Multiple Factors ‘tipped balance’ in favour of Brendan Rodgers’ side

Barcelona’s Álex Valle arrived at Celtic on a loan deal towards the end of the last window.  He extended his deal at the Camp Nou until 2026 before joining Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Sport claim Hansi Flick wasn’t in favour of letting the left-back move to Celtic, because he wanted to have Valle at his disposal this season.

The 21-year-old returned to Barca from his loan spell at Levante UD in the summer. He was able to impress Flick during the pre-season tour and this convinced the German to make an effort to block his transfer to Celtic.

It’s claimed the former Bayern Munich manager urged Barca sporting director Deco to keep the Spaniard at the club.

Valle, on the other hand, wanted regular game time to continue his development. Flick wasn’t able to assure him regarding this. In addition, the manager chose Gerard Martín as Alejandro Balde’s backup at the Camp Nou.

Therefore, Valle decided to go out on loan. The option of playing in the Champions League with Brendan Rodgers’ side, their ‘historic status’ and infrastructure ‘tipped the balance’ in Celtic’s favour.

Valle has made three appearances for Celtic so far. He came off the bench in their 7-1 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
