Worry for Alexander Isak as another Newcastle United forward 'looking more and more vital'

Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the latest injury update on Alexander Isak, with the Swedish striker set to miss the next two weeks of action

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is likely to be out until after the international break with an injury - and worry has set in amongst the Chronicle Live readers in our comments section.

Isak missed the Man City draw and wasn't there to see the club progress in the latest Carabao Cup fixture, and he's being treated for a broken toe. The Swedish FA have ruled him out of their upcoming Nations League games during the international break.

Manager Eddie Howe said that Isak was playing through the pain during the 3-1 loss to Fulham two weeks ago, and that he will be monitored for fitness to see if he make it back in time for Everton. Howe said: "It was either he’d be out until probably after the international break initially, or he could carry on playing as normal if he could tolerate the feelings and the effects of the injury. He hasn’t been able to do that, so we’re back to the original diagnosis, I think."

Reader Wearsy19NUFC writes "Well, fingers crossed it is only 2 weeks for Isak, as he's the main man up front. Gordon can fill in, but that's not his best spot, it's down left running taking it to Isak but he can score goals as proven with his penalty that would have been Isak's duty."

Paranoidandroid says: "I remember when we first bought Isak, he was described as a striker who hadn't suffered many injuries during his career. He's made up for it since joining the Toon! Anthony Gordon is looking more and more vital for the season."

Earlgray writes: "Can't say I am surprised at these injuries. Barnes had a broken toe and now Isak. The modern football boot is designed for style rather than functionality. They are more like colourful carpet slippers and have no adequate toecap or ankle protection. Still, they are probably paid a fortune to wear them so that trumps everything."

Some fans have an eye on making up for a quiet summer with the January transfer window. Petrus says: "The obvious is there and we all knew. The striker issue will continue to be a problem and Newcastle will struggle unless Newcastle sign another top striker at the earliest January. Making it to January, needing the players we need, is going to be a hard journey."

Jonnythebrave agrees: "Very disappointing considering Wilson was injured all through the transfer window and was never going to play for months, yet we pursued a defender for £70mil who was never going to come, and started the season with one fit striker, knowing we would be in trouble if he picked up an injury."

A transfer solution won't be easy, says N Shields Lad: "To buy a top forward now is like trying to obtain hens teeth, they are hard to find. Then if we come across a player who fits the bill, I suppose he'll cost a lot of money, that's why we're still looking."

Motivation wants Isak to play through the pain: "He should play for Newcastle on Saturday, because he then has two weeks to recover. Newcastle pay his wages. They need him for the points."
