The Magpies have been repeatedly linked with a move for Lille forward Jonathan David

Newcastle United face competition from Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Lille forward Jonathan David this summer.

Spanish media outlet Sport claims the Magpies are among a number of Europe's top clubs chasing the signature of the£42m rated Canadian international. David is in the final year of his contract with Ligue 1 side Lille and will be available on a free transfer this summer.

The report claims Barcelona are keen on signing the 24-year-old on a free transfer next summer, as they continue to find a way round their financial struggles.

Manchester United and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest and Sport claims Barca are concerned David's recent winner against Real Madrid in the Champions League will only increase the interest in him. David has notched eight goals and registered two assists from 13 games so far this season, with 92 goals in 194 appearances for Lille since joining the club from Gent in 2020.

Sport Mediaset claim Inter Milan have already held talks with David's representatives as they look to get ahead in the race to sign the prolific goal scorer.

Reports from across Europe claim it's unlikely David will sign a new contract with the French club, given the interest in him from across the continent. It opens the door for Newcastle and prospective clubs to sign the talent on a cut price fee.

Eddie Howe's side are currently playing without an out and out striker given injuries to Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, with summer signing Will Osula not yet deemed to be ready to start in the Premier League.. Magpies' sporting director Paul Mitchell has already spoken about signing players who are 'undervalued' in upcoming transfer windows, with David a perfect example of that should it come to fruition.
