He's widely rumoured to be taking the reigns from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond

And now a study has revealed that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is officially the most handsome man in the world.

Dr Julian De Silva, a facial cosmetic surgeon based in London, used the Greek Golden Ratio of Beauty to uncover the 10 most handsome men in the world, according to science.

Taylor-Johnson, 34, tops the list with an almost perfect score of 93.04 per cent - while several other heartthrobs are close behind.

So, does your favourite star make the list?

The 10 most handsome men in the world, according to the Golden Ratio

  1. Aaron Taylor-Johnson - 93.04%
  2. Lucien Laviscount - 92.41%
  3. Paul Mescal - 92.38%
  4. Robert Pattison - 92.15%
  5. Jack Lowden - 90.33%
  6. George Clooney - 89.9%
  7. Nicholas Hoult - 89.84%
  8. Charles Melton - 88.46%
  9. Idris Elba - 87.94%
  10. Shah Rukh Khan - 86.76%

To understand which faces are the most attractive, Dr De Silva, who runs the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery in London, used the Golden Ratio - a mathematical equation devised by the Greeks in an attempt to measure beauty.

The ratio can be applied to almost anything and was used by Leonardo Da Vinci for the perfect human male body in his famous work, the Vitruvian Man.

The premise behind the Golden Ratio is that the closer the ratios of a face or body are to the number 1.618 (Phi), the more beautiful they become.

His analysis revealed that Taylor-Johnson tops the list, with an impressive score of 93.04 per cent.

Dr De Silva said: 'Aaron was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection.

'His 93.04% score would easily make him the most handsome James Bond in the history if he does land the role as expected.

'He is well ahead of all the James Bond actors - Sean Connery, in second place with 89.2%, with Roger Moore in third on 88.8% and Daniel Craig in last place - behind George Lazenby - on 84.2%.'

According to Dr De Silva, what makes Taylor-Johnson so handsome is the overall shape of his face, which scored 99.2 per cent.

However, almost all of his features also scored highly.

'The width and length of his nose is almost perfect, too, at 98.8%,' Dr De Silva explained.

'He also has a beautifully sculpted chin which scored well at 95%.

'All his scores were really strong except for his eye spacing at 89%, the gap between his nose and lip (89.6%) and his lips (86%).'

Emily In Paris star, Lucien Laviscount, 32, came in second place, with a score of 92.41 per cent.

The ratio can be applied to almost anything and was used by Leonardo Da Vinci for the perfect human male body in his famous work, the Vitruvian Man

'[Lucien Laviscount] had the highest score for the length and width of his face at 99.1%,' Dr De Silva said.

'He was also top scorer for his beautifully shaped lips at 97.4%. He was marked down for the gap between his nose and his upper lip.'

Gladiator II star Paul Mescal, 28, was the third most handsome man on the list, with a 92.38 per cent score, followed by Robert Pattison (92.15 per cent), and Jack Lowden (90.33 per cent).

Several older gentlemen were also included in the top 10 list.

Unsurprisingly, George Clooney scored an impressive 89.9 per cent, putting him in sixth place on the list.

The premise behind the Golden Ratio is that the closer the ratios of a face or body are to the number 1.618 (Phi), the more beautiful they become

'George Clooney is easily the oldest star on the list but he remains a stunningly attractive man with classical features in great proportion,' Dr De Silva said.

'There has been a loss of volume in his face and, inevitably, some sagging around the eyes.

'To still make the top ten at 63 is remarkable and is testament to his incredible natural good looks.'

Meanwhile, rounding out the top 10 is Shah Rukh Khan, whose face scored 86.76 per cent.

Aside from being a bit of fun, Dr De Silva hopes the findings will help to unravel the mystery of physical beauty

Dr De Silva said: 'The king of Bollywood has been one of India's biggest stars for the last three decades.

'He is still striking looking at 58 and is ageing wonderfully.

'He scored very highly for his lips and wonderfully square chin but missed out on a higher position due to the shape of his nose.'

Aside from being a bit of fun, Dr De Silva hopes the findings will help to unravel the mystery of physical beauty.

'These brand new computer mapping techniques allow us to solve some of the mysteries of what it is that makes someone physically beautiful and the technology is useful when planning patients' surgery,' he added.
