Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Georgia's Supreme Court reversed a lower court's ballot extension in the swing state Monday, ruling that 3,000 absentee ballots -- which were sent out late in Cobb County -- will only be counted if they are received by Election Day.

Lawsuits from Democrats and Republicans involving voting issues have made battleground states even more contentious before Election Day begins.

More than 4,000 mail ballot applications have been challenged across 14 Pennsylvania counties, leaving election officials to decide eligibility during hearings that will extend well past Election Day.

Georgia’s highest court has stayed a lower court ruling that would have allowed certain voters in the state’s third-largest county who received their absentee ballots late to return them after the deadline.
