Cause of Chesterfield fire confirmed after investigation

by Ben Lyons · Derbyshire LiveThe cause of a fire in a Derbyshire town has been confirmed. Fire crews from four different stations across the county responded to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Newbold Road, Chesterfield, at 8.30am on Tuesday morning (September 17).
The blaze caused three people to be treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, as Derbyshire police set up a cordon warning people in the area to keep their doors and windows shut as fire crews dealt with the blaze.
Following the incident, an investigation has been launched into how the fire broke out, and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has concluded that the cause of the fire was due to an accident while cooking.
Firefighters from Matlock, Chesterfield Staveley and Clay Cross attended the scene on Tuesday following the call at 8.06am. Upon their arrival the crews were met with a fire on the ground floor of the property and promptly used jet hoses to extinguish the blaze.
The fire was extinguished and a stop message was sent out at 16.54pm after several hours of battling the blaze.
