Man charged with murder after 62-year-old found dead in Heanor

A murder inquiry was launched after a man was found dead in house

A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder after a man was found dead at an address in Heanor.

Derbyshire police were called to an address on Howitt Street, Heanor, just before 11.55am on Monday, September 30, to reports of a man who had been found dead. The man was later identified as 62-year-old Shaun Harriman.

Mr Harriman’s family have been made aware of his death and are being supported by specialist officers. Lee Young, 37, was arrested on Monday, September 30, and has now been charged with the murder of the 62-year-old.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Croome, who is leading the investigation, said: “I appreciate that incidents such as this are worrying to people living in the area but I’d like to reassure the public that those involved were known to each other and there is no wider risk.”

The 37-year-old who has been charged with murder appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court today (Thursday, October 3) where his case was adjourned and he was remanded in custody.

Derbyshire police have also appealed for anyone who has not yet come forward with information to do so.
