The Little Mix star said she wasn't 'going through that again'

Perrie Edwards revealed she had been born without one of her five senses - and only found out after a terrifying fire at her home. The Little Mix star, who is back on our screens joining The Voice this weekend as the guest judge of Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher, was born without her sense of smell.

She revealed she found out when she only realised there was a fire in her childhood home when black smoke filled her bedroom, making it difficult to breathe. This rare health condition, known as congenital anosmia, is a birth defect that affects one in every 10,000 Brits.

Perrie later spoke about deciding to stop limited treatments for the condition after having surgery, but her sense of smell only returned for a short time. She recalled: "I had surgery, came out, had big tampons in my nose, recovered for a while. And then I swear to God I could smell coffee. I woke up and smelled the coffee."

After her sense of smell only came back briefly, she added: "I was like, I'm not going through that again. I don't care. If I had it and lost it, fair enough. But I've never had it, so why care? ".

Perrie was also born with oesophageal atresia. The condition is a rare birth defect that affects a baby's oesophagus, the tube through which food passes from the mouth to the stomach. The NHS says that in babies born with the condition, the upper part of the oesophagus doesn't connect with the lower oesophagus and stomach, which means food can't reach the stomach.

It also causes complications with swallowing. Perrie underwent several operations because of the condition, leaving her with a bisectional scar on her stomach
