What have the community said?

Desmond Jaddoo

Community campaigner Desmond Jaddoo said Hunters Road was becoming "notorious" having suffered from a host of issues, including drugs and trouble with HMOs. He told BirminghamLive: "We have identified the need for closer working within this area because Hunters Road is now becoming a little bit too notorious within the locality."

He added: "This is a yet another incident that highlights the need for greater community working within Lozells particularly when we look at the fact that the community does require reassurance.

"We're working hard with the authorities to try and build greater resilience and a greater spirit within the community. Unfortunately, incidents like this do set back the work - but it doesn't lessen our resolve to ensure that things are improved."

Councillor Waseem Zaffar said when news of the killing broke: "People are reporting drug dealing out in the open. There's loud noise disturbances, rowing in the street, illegal parking. There's an oversaturation of vulnerable people being put in the area and it's all costing us dear."
