Hammer and crowbar seized as man, 40, arrested in Smethwick

A hammer and crowbar were seized after police responded to reports of 'suspicious activity' in Smethwick. Officers were called to reports of a man trying to break into a Victoria Road property on Sunday, November 3.

Police got to the scene at around 11pm but the man ran off. A "brief" foot chase resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old man.

West Midlands Police said a hammer and crowbar were also recovered. The man was currently in custody on suspicion of going equipped for theft.

A force spokesperson said: "We've seized a hammer, a crowbar and made an arrest after responding to suspicious activity in Smethwick. We received a report of a man trying to break into a property in Victoria Road just after 11pm yesterday (November 3).

"Officers were quickly on the scene and a man ran off. However, following a brief foot chase a 40-year-old was arrested. A hammer and crowbar were recovered and the man is currently in custody on suspicion of going equipped for theft."
