Murder probe as 19-year-old dies after Washwood Heath shooting

Detectives have launched a murder probe after a 19-year-old died in a shooting in Washwood Heath on Saturday, October 19. Police were called to Alderson Road just before 10.30pm and found the teenager had suffered life-threatening injuries.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and lost his fight for life yesterday (Monday, October 21). Two men, aged 46 and 22, and a woman, 40, were initially arrested in Alum Rock Road on suspicion of attempted murder.

Detectives said today that the suspects were released on bail while enquiries continued. A third man, 25, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and remained in police custody.

Det Insp James Mahon of West Midlands Police's Homicide Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the young man’s family, who is being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time. This is a fast-moving investigation - but I’m still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen or heard anything to come forward.

“We believe this was an isolated incident, and extra patrols are being carried out in the area. We understand the alarm incidents like this can cause and our officers will be providing reassurance to the community, so please talk to them if you have any concerns.”
