A man has appeared in court after shots were fired at a car just yards away from Villa Park. Kasim Ali, 24, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (October 12) charged with attempted murder.

Ali was arrested after after shots were fired at a vehicle on Trinity Road, Aston on Wednesday, October 2. No-one was injured in the shooting, police have said.

The charge was made as part of Operation Target, West Midland Police's crackdown on serious and organised crime offences. Kasim Ali appeared in court for a first hearing yesterday, further updates are expected as the case progresses.

A West Midlands Police statement reads: "We have charged a man with attempted murder after shots were fired at a car in Aston. Kasim Ali, aged 24, is set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (Sat) for a first hearing.

"It follows an incident where shots were fired at a car on Trinity Road on 2 October. Fortunately, no-one was hurt.

"We're currently running Operation Target which sees us take a defiant stand against a range of serious and organised crime offences. Officers use local intelligence, seize goods, carry out warrants and target offenders as part of Op Target’s ongoing crackdown against serious and organised crime."
